Colorado in the fall

6 of the Best Things about Colorado in Fall

Colorado is world-renowned for its breathtaking, natural beauty—no matter the time of year—but fall in the Centennial State is something special. Enjoy this list of the best parts of Colorado in the fall!

1. Fall color

They don’t call us Colorful Colorado for nothing! Our scenery is always spectacular, but fall definitely ratchets up the intensity. There’s nothing quite like driving through a winding mountain road, surrounded by rustling Aspens, bathed in golden yellow. Check out this fall foliage guide to find all the best spots for show-stopping fall colors.

2. Perfect weather

Colorado has plenty of sunshine year round, but fall feels like the perfect time to enjoy it. The temperatures are milder and the air feels crisp, making fall a great time to go for a hike. (Or a ride, or a walk, or a drive.) Bonus: almost no impromptu storms. Cloudbursts are common in the summer afternoons, but once September is in full swing, they are few and far between.

3. Historic train trips

Our state is full of fascinating history and riding the rails is the perfect way to get a feel for Colorado’s wild-and-wooly past. That stunning fall color we mentioned makes this the ideal time to climb aboard and indulge in sumptuous scenery, wildlife spotting, and learning about the bygone era of Colorado’s mining yesteryear.

4. Broncos football

What’s better than football season in Broncos Country? Not much! Whether you catch a game in person at Sports Authority Field at Mile High or enjoy it with a microbrew in a Colorado pub, it’s more than just a game here—it’s an experience.

5. Fall festivals

There’s always a festival happening in Colorado, and fall is no exception. Whether you want to sample craft beer and yummy food, browse arts and crafts, or listen to music, there’s an event for every interest.

6. Early season skiing

In Colorado, we like to experience a bit of winter alongside our autumns. Thankfully, there are always some resorts open by the end of November. Spend one day on the high altitude slopes and the next back down the mountain enjoying warm and sunny hiking, biking or chilling. There’s so much to love about fall in Colorado, I could go on forever!
